Last week the ETSB of DuPage County formerly announced the launch of their $30 million interoperable radio system made possible by aetsb_starcom_launch-resized-600.jpg statewide radio network, STARCOM21.  STARCOM21 is Illinois’ statewide digital public safety radio system and provides coverage for over 98 percent of the State of Illinois. The network currently provides public safety communications for state and local public safety agencies. The STARCOM21 network is a public-private partnership between Motorola Solutions and the State of Illinois.DuPage County's new system will allow more than 3,000 police, fire and emergency personnel to communicate with each other daily and as needed when emergencies arrise. In order to seamlessly connect the 60 public safety agencies into one system, 3,134 portable and mobile radios are used along with 53 consoles in nine emergency dispatch centers.

Chicago Communications was selected by Motorola Solutions as the sub contracter to install all 53 consoles and program all the subscriber units for the DuPage County System. Pictured right is Linda Zerwin (Executive Director of the ETSB, John Kedzierski (Motorola Solutions) & Cindy Glashagel (Principal of Chicago Communications). Cindy said she was honored to be a part of a project of this magnitude that involved so many agencies.

The DuPage radio system has already been put to use last month when the county hosted the Ryder Cup at Medinah Country Club along with 400,000 spectators.

“Congratulations to the true beneficiaries of this system: the citizens, who are protected by the more than 3,300 first responders who will utilize this network. A job well done with hard work and dedication by all the groups represented on the ETS Board,” said Rodney Craig (President of the DuPage Mayors and Managers Conference).
